HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Wildlife Nutrition Warehouse Manager leads the diverse daily operations at the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, associated with the cost-efficient purchasing, storage, preparation and dispersal of wildlife feeds, compliant with industry standards and regulations. They support strategic initiatives, and multi-year planning for Wildlife Nutrition and San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA). This position reports to the Director of Wildlife Nutrition.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Responsible for oversight of Wildlife Nutrition staff including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, training and performance management.

  • Establish and continuously improve warehouse practices and protocols to achieve a safe and efficient warehouse that meets all industry standards and regulations.

  • Monitor workplace performance, including ensuring the safe use of warehouse equipment and developing growth in employees.

  • Exercise fiscal responsibility by adhering to budget and recommending variances as needed.

  • Maintain an adequate supply of foodstuffs by conducting inventories and placing and receiving orders.

  • Set warehouse and team goals in collaboration with executive management and other team leads.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented leader with a strong background in warehouse operations, preferably within the food, animal care, restaurant, or purchasing industries. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in managing teams, optimizing logistics, and ensuring compliance with safety and biosecurity standards. A passion for wildlife care, combined with a strategic mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, is essential. Strong communication skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture are key to success in this role.

JOB EXPERIENCE

  • Two years or more of related experience in a supervisory position preferably related to the food/animal, warehouse, or purchasing industries. 

  • Three years or more of experience in an AZA-accredited zoo commissary or warehouse operations is highly desirable.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree or 60 credits towards a Bachelor's degree in animal science, zoology, logistics, supply chain management or business administrations required.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university degree in animal science, zoology, logistics, supply chain management or business administration preferred.

  • Current valid California Driver’s License required

  • ServSafe Certified within 30 days

  • Certified in the operation of forklifts, electric pallet jacks within 60 days

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Thorough knowledge of procedures required to manage and control animal feed through the ordering, receiving, quality control, storage, preparing, issue, and/or delivery.

  • Understanding and implementation of safety and security practices

  • Understanding and implementation of bio-security policies and procedures regarding zoonotic disease

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, human resource information systems, automated inventory control, purchasing and financial systems

  • Ability to operate forklift, electric pallet jacks, vertical and horizontal stackers and other MHE equipment

  • Ability to  identify and seize opportunities as they arise, anticipate future consequences, and take action when needed.

  • Ability to work effectively and maintain composure in a fast paced environment managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.

  • Ability to lead through direction and development of others.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively, plan, and remain organized. 

  • Ability to build and work with effective, diverse teams.

  • Ability to apply critical thinking in problem solving and decision making.

  • Salary Range: $78,400 to $86,680
