CALL FOR ABSTRACTS & INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Important Deadline:

The deadline for abstract submission has been extended to June 15, 2008.

General

We invite presentations on any area of comparative nutrition. The focus of scientific sessions will be developed by program chairs after abstracts are received, rather than defined prior to receiving abstract submissions. Recognizing the diversity of disciplines associated with the Comparative Nutrition Society (CNS) and its membership, this approach ensures broad representation of the relevant sciences and issues. All abstracts will be published in the 2008 CNS Symposia Proceedings, which will be distributed to participants of the symposium and to the entire CNS membership. Membership in the CNS is not required for submission of abstracts. Abstracts will be reviewed for technical clarity. Attempts will be made to honor presentation preferences (oral or poster); however, program constraints may necessitate changes. Oral presentations will be 20 minutes in length. Abstracts should present a complete capsule of information to be presented including (1) a statement of introduction and hypothesis or specific objectives, (b) a brief statement of methods, (c) relevant data, (d) summary of results, and (e) statement of conclusions. Tables and figures may be included. Authors are encouraged to provide several key references. Abstracts may be general reviews or new reports of research results. Submissions must be original material not previously published by the authors.

Submission Format

Abstracts should be submitted online.  To ensure the security of abstract submissions, members must use their username and password to enter the submission page.  Members who do not have or remember their their username and password can have it emailed to them, look for the 'Click here' link on the Member Home page.  Upload your abstract as a Microsoft Word or Wordperfect file. .

Submission Style

Follow the link below for an example of the abstract format. Please use this example and the guide that follows on this page when preparing your submission.

Abstract Format for Proceedings (click here for example)

  1. Abstracts should be typed using single line spacing in a font that is no more than 12 characters per inch.
  2. Abstracts should be one to five single-spaced pages in length (maximum of five pages including references, tables, and figures).
  3. Margins should be one inch on each side, top, and bottom of all pages. Text should be full justified.
  4. Abstract titles should appear in CAPITAL LETTERS at the top of the first page.
  5. Names of all authors should be listed after the title at the top of the first page. The name of the presenting author should be marked with an asterisk. Author names should be followed by a list of corresponding affiliations and current addresses. Identify each author and corresponding address with numbered superscripts.
  6. References should be cited in parentheses (author, year) in the body of the abstract and arranged alphabetically in a “Literature Cited” list at the end of the abstract.
  7. Figures and tables should be self-explanatory, high-quality, and each one should be no larger than one 8.5 x 11 inch page. We regret that we cannot accept color figures; submit only black and white figures.

Abstracts in the CNS proceedings are not subject to peer review and should be considered preliminary reports of research. Abstracts are not to be cited and presentation of preliminary findings in the CNS proceedings should not affect future publication of final reports of research in peer-reviewed journals.

Posters

Posters should be easy to read and the message should be clear. Use letters that are large enough to be read from five feet away. Posters should fit within a 4-foot wide × 6-foot long area. Please, bring your own pushpins.
